FLORIDA ATTORNEY GENERAL PAM BONDI

Before winning election in November 2010, and serving as Florida’s first female Attorney General beginning two months later, Pam Bondi served for more than 18 years as a front-line prosecutor in the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office.

As Assistant State Attorney in the 13th Judicial Circuit, Bondi served under five State Attorneys (most recently Mark Ober) in a department staffed with more than 100 attorneys.

While there, Pam served as Felony Bureau Chief and a key member of internal homicide, vehicular homicide, and DUI manslaughter committees. She also sat on the Executive Committee responsible for budget, personnel, and legal strategies.

Bondi’s investigative and courtroom experience came into play with cases of national interest, including putting Adam Davis on death row for the murder of Vicky Robinson and convicting Melvin Givens of first-degree murder for the stabbing death of local NBC-News Producer Danielle Cipriani.

Her opinions and commentary were featured regularly on national broadcast and cable news channels. Closer to home, Bondi regularly traveled to Tallahassee to oppose the parole of convicted murderers and rapists.

As Florida’s 37th Attorney General, Pam successfully championed a landmark law to halt the spiraling problem of “pill mills”; banned MDPVs, “bath salts”; helped reverse the automatic restoration of felons’ rights; led on the issue of job licensing safety and fairness; continues to fight the federal government’s overreach of authority in the lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency; and was a leader on the 26-state constitutional challenge to the government health care takeover, a case that was taken all the way to the Supreme Court.

Beyond serving as a member of the State Board of Administration and the Florida Cabinet (dealing with issues from jobs and investments to growth and the environment), Pam has already been honored with a leadership position in NAAG (National Association of Attorneys General) by her fellow Attorneys General, and serves on Florida’s Special Olympics Board of Directors.

A graduate of the University of Florida (B.A. in Criminal Justice, 1987) and Stetson Law School (Juris Doctor, 1990), Bondi served as the Vice Chair of a Florida Bar Grievance Committee, and on the Boards of Directors of the University of Florida Gator Club, the Children’s Board, and the Junior League.

Bondi was recognized as a Tampa Bay Review “Lawyer of Distinction” in 2001, received the “Women of Excellence in Government” award, and

A native of Tampa, Bondi is a fourth generation Floridian, and hails from a family dedicated to service, including three generations of educators.

Pam Bondi, a veteran 18 year prosecutor, was elected Florida’s 37th Attorney General — the first woman in state history to serve as Florida’s chief legal officer.
She has also been selected as Vice Chair of the Southern Region of the National Association of Attorneys General.
