I have known Glenn since the RTC era of the 1990’s when Glenn acquired Palm Beach Polo where Princess Diana and Prince Charles socialized frequently.

Ambassador Al Hoffman was founder and Chief Executive Officer of WCI Communities, Inc., a NYSE company. Under his guidance, the Bonita Springs-based company became the largest master-planned community developer and builder in Florida with more than 38 communities and revenue exceeding $1.6 billion. He resigned from WCI in 2005 to accept President Bush’s appointment as Ambassador to the Republic of Portugal in 2005 until 2008. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Mr. Hoffman served as a fighter pilot during his military career and later earned an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Ambassador Hoffman was National Co-Chair for the elections and inaugurations of George W. Bush for President. He was National Finance Chairman of the Republican National Committee for two separate terms from 2001 and 2004. At the state level, he served as Finance Chairman of Jeb Bush’s gubernatorial campaigns in 1998 and 2002. Hoffman was also National Co-Chair for the McCain ’08 campaign and General Campaign Chair of the Marco Rubio Senate campaign.

His interest and involvement with education and the arts and business span many years and include his tenure as Chairman of the Florida Education Foundation, Chairman of the Florida Council on Economic Education, founding Chairman of Clearwater’s Ruth Eckerd Performing Arts Center, trustee of The Florida Arts Council, Vice-Chair of the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Hall, founding Director of the Council for Educational Change and the Board of the Florida Chamber of Commerce. He was also former Chairman of the Florida Council of 100, a group comprised of the state’s top business leaders.

In 2005, Ambassador Hoffman was awarded the state’s highest civilian honor by the Governor and Secretary of State and was designated a “Great Floridian” for his civic and philanthropic efforts on behalf of the people of Florida.

Currently, Ambassador Hoffman serves on the Board of SAFE, a nonprofit Washington-based organization dedicated to energy security and is also a member of the Advisory Board for the Center for the Study of the Presidency in Washington.

An avid polo player, Hoffman founded the Tampa Bay Polo Club and was its Chairman for 15 years.

Ambassador Hoffman’s wife, Dawn is active in the community, participating and taking leadership roles in various philanthropic organizations. They and their two daughters live in North Palm Beach, Florida.
